What is perinatal mental health?
A: Perinatal mental health refers to the emotional and psychological well-being of women, birthing persons, and non-birthing partners during the period from family planning through pregnancy and postpartum. It includes addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, birth trauma, and stress related to fertility, pregnancy, and early parenthood.
What mental health conditions are commonly addressed in perinatal mental health?
Common conditions include perinatal anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, birth trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), perinatal obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and grief following pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or miscarriage.
How do I know if I need perinatal mental health support?
If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad, or having trouble coping during pregnancy, postpartum, or even during the fertility process, it may be helpful to seek mental health support. Symptoms such as persistent sadness, irritability, trouble sleeping, feelings of hopelessness, or difficulty bonding with your baby are also signs that mental health support could be beneficial.
Do you offer services for non-birthing partners?
Yes! We recognize that non-birthing partners can also experience emotional challenges during the perinatal period. We offer mental health support for partners, including therapy and counseling to help them navigate their own emotional journeys and support their families.
How do I get started with perinatal mental health services?
A: Getting started is simple. You can reach out to us through our contact page to schedule a consultation with one of our mental health providers. We will work with you to determine the best type of support based on your specific needs and preferences.
Is perinatal mental health therapy covered by insurance?
A: Many of our services are covered by insurance plans, though coverage may vary depending on your provider. We recommend checking with your insurance company to verify coverage for mental health services. Our administrative team is also available to help you navigate insurance questions.
How do I know if I have Out of Network (OON)Coverage?
Out-of-network coverage refers to healthcare services provided by a provider that is not in contract with your insurance company. You can find the customer service number on the back of your insurance card. You can ask about your out-of-network benefits for the specific type of healthcare service you are seeking.
